Chief Minister Designate proposes Ministerial Nominations

The Chief Minister Designate, Senator Lyndon Farnham, has declared his choices for the new Council of Ministers.

On Monday 29 June, the States Assembly will convene to vote on these roles. States Members have the opportunity to nominate their own preferred candidates for each Ministerial role, if they wish to do so.
Each candidate will give a speech for up to ten minutes and answer questions from the Assembly for up to twenty minutes before the Assembly votes.
Uncontested candidates are still required to speak and answer questions put forward by the Assembly. However there is no vote for their role, they are automatically appointed.
Explanatory Note
The Chief Minister designate proposes to make the following change to the Ministerial Offices:
Dividing the existing office of “Minister for Environment”. This will involve the creation of a dedicated “Minister for Planning and Regulation” who will focus on planning matters and work to deliver an improved regulatory environment. This will enable the “Minister for Environment” to focus on the environment, as well as taking on responsibilities for our agriculture and marine sectors. Having dedicated Ministers for these areas will support a greater focus on each.
This change requires an Order under Article 29A of the States of Jersey Law 2005. As soon as the Order is given effect, Senator Mark Boleat will be nominated as Minister for Planning and Regulation, with the election to take place on 14th July. Until then, Senator Boleat will be appointed as an Assistant Minister to the Minister for Environment with full delegated powers and participate in the Council of Ministers, supporting an effective start for all.
