Public Accounts Committee to host networking conference

Jersey’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will be hosting representatives from across the British Islands and Mediterranean Region (BIMR) of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). The conference brings together members of Public Accounts Committees and representatives of respective Audit Offices from a diverse range of jurisdictions – including Gibraltar, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland – and will run all day on Friday 7 November.Items on the agenda for discussion include how PAC’s can effectively track the implementation of their recommendations; the challenges and benefits of audit institutions; and the role of PAC’s in scrutinising significant spend by Government in areas such as capital programmes, health spending and annual reporting. Delegates will also receive a tour of the States Assembly building.
The Chair of PAC, Deputy Inna Gardiner, said:
“I am looking forward to welcoming representatives from across the British Islands and Mediterranean Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to the States Assembly tomorrow.
“These networking conferences are an excellent opportunity to share, listen to and learn from other PAC’s around the world. Whilst our political processes may differ, many of the challenges we face are similar, and there is lots to learn from other jurisdictions.
“The role of scrutiny in holding the government to account – and specifically for PAC in checking public funds have been used efficiently and effectively – is fundamental for ensuring Islanders are getting value for money.
“I am looking forward to meeting PAC members from the BIMR region for our annual networking event and to share the outcomes from what will no doubt be productive and engaging workshops”.
