States Meeting Summary 30 June

Members reconvened to continue with the appointment of Ministers.

Minister for Sustainable Economic Development 

Each candidate for the role of Minister for Sustainable Economic Development gave a speech for up to 10 minutes and answered questions from the Assembly for up to 20 minutes before the Assembly voted.  

The Chief Minister designate’s preferred candidate was Deputy Gerald Voisin.

Members voted to elect Deputy Gerald Voisin as the new Minister for Sustainable Economic Development.  

Deputy Voisin received 35 votes with Deputy Tadier receiving 13 votes. There were 0 abstentions. Former Economic Development Minister, Deputy Kirsten Morel did not vote. 

Minister for Treasury and Resources 

As the only nominated candidate for the role of Minister for Treasury and Resources, Senator Alan Maclean gave a speech and answered questions from the Assembly.

Privileges and Procedures Committee (PPC) 

The PPC is responsible for the procedures of the States Assembly, for Members' facilities and the Code of Conduct for Members. 

As the only nominated candidate for the role of Chair of the Privileges and Procedures Committee, Deputy Carina Alves gave a speech and answered questions from the Assembly.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) 

The PAC determines whether public funds have been used efficiently, effectively, and economically in order to deliver value for money for Islanders.  

As the only nominated candidate for the role of Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, Deputy Karen Wilson gave a speech and answered questions from the Assembly.

Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel (CSSP) 

The Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel, reviews the policy and legislation arising from the work of the Chief Minister and the Minister for Treasury and Resources (excluding Financial Services). 

As the only nominated candidate for the role of Chair of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel, Deputy Lyndsay Feltham gave a speech and answered questions from the Assembly.

Appointment of the Chair of the Planning Committee  

The Planning Committee considers applications for property and land development and grants or refuses planning permission. The Committee meets in public to hear the views of objectors and others before making its decisions.
