REPORT

This amendment to the amendment of PPC is proposed so that, notwithstanding that the States should approve the holding of a referendum or that legislation drafting should commence, the bringing into effect of the change proposed by the Chief Minister would be a decision of the next Assembly.

The new democratically elected Assembly should have the final say.

This would ensure that the future States Assembly is able to take the views of the Public into account when deciding upon the detail around the move to an elected Speaker.

Financial and manpower implications

There are no additional financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this proposed amendment.
