WQ.201/2026
WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR PLANNING AND REGULATION
BY DEPUTY K.M. WILSON OF ST. CLEMENT
QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 5th OCTOBER 2026
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 12th OCTOBER 2026
Question
"Further to the adoption of the Draft Regulation of Care (Jersey) Amendment Law 202- (P.57/2025), which stated that over time further regulations would be brought forward including "clinic services, including provision of medicinal cannabis", will the Minister advise what progress has been made towards regulating the clinics including –
- the cost to include regulation of medicinal cannabis clinics by the Commission and how this will be funded; and
- any timetable for inspection of these services;
and if no progress has been made on this matter, will he explain why not?" Answer
As noted in response to WQ.189/2026, the Jersey Care Commission (the Commission) is currently preparing to regulate hospital, ambulance and Government-provided mental health services. A phased programme of inspections is planned to commence in 2027. The Commission is also preparing to regulate the Assisted Dying Service.
There are no plans to extend the Jersey Care Commission's remit while it prepares to take on these substantial new commitments.
In addition, the Minister for Heal th and Social Services plans to bring forward new legislation to place new regulation on doctors who prescribe medicinal cannabis. This is due to come into force in early 2027. This will provide additional oversight, requirements and control of medicinal cannabis prescribing practise.
