The Draft Dogs Law (Jersey) Amendment Regulations 202- (P.63/2025) was lodged by the Comité des Connétables on 19th August 2025 for earliest debate in the States Assembly on 30th September 2025. 

The proposition seeks to amend the Dogs (Jersey) Law 1961 by introducing controls on dogs of a type or breed considered dangerous, with the aim of enhancing public safety, following similar measures introduced in the United Kingdom. The draft Regulations would establish a registration scheme requiring owners of dangerous dogs to register with the States Veterinary Officer and comply with conditions including neutering, microchipping, muzzling in public, keeping the dog in secure premises, and maintaining third-party insurance. They also link the new registration system to the existing parish dog licence scheme, preventing licences from being issued unless registration requirements are met, and introduce provisions for licence revocation, appeals, and updated collar identification rules. Further amendments extend the powers of seizure to dangerous dogs and modernise various elements of the 1961 Law.
