Celebrating Disability and Awareness Inclusion Day

States Assembly

4 November 2026

A group from Beresford Street Kitchen has visited the States Chamber to engage in a bespoke, interactive tour.

The chosen date – Tuesday 3rd November - coincided with Purple Tuesday, which is an international awareness campaign, launched on the first Tuesday of November each year, encouraging businesses and organisations to improve accessibility and inclusion for disabled people.

The group from BSK used a range of props and visual aids to learn about the roles and responsibilities of States Members and how they are elected.  They enjoyed the unique experience of sitting in States Members’ chairs, participating in a roll call, using the voting buttons and engaging in a mock election.  They also valued the opportunity to meet and question three States Members – Senator Helen Miles, Deputy Victoria Li and Deputy Barbara Ward, on issues such as educational opportunities for those with learning difficulties, health care for the disabled and homeless and the dangers of joyriding and speeding late at night.

If any other school, business or organisation is interested in booking a bespoke tour of the Chamber, please do get in touch with the Education and Outreach Team via email: [email protected]
