REPORT
Having discussed my amendment with a number of States Members, I recognise that the formula I originally proposed was slightly over-complicated. My intention has always been to bring forward a small but meaningful change that strengthens fairness and Island-wide representation.
In order to achieve this more effectively, I am asking the Assembly to allow me to reduce the lodging period so that I can bring a refined and simplified version of my amendment for debate.
The revised proposal is as follows:
• 1 proposer – from anywhere on the Island, who is entitled to vote
• 9 seconders – 1 from each of Jersey's nine Deputy electoral constituencies
Total = 10 supporters Island-wide
Specifically, what this would look like to a candidate:

The rationale behind my original amendment remains unchanged: a Senator should be able to demonstrate that their manifesto, platform and values have found support across Jersey, not just in one parish or constituency. I believe this simpler formulation makes that principle clearer, easier to understand, and I would hope, more likely to command broad support in the Assembly.
