Question
"In relation to the minimum wage, will the Minister advise whether consideration is being given to –
- setting different rates across industries and, if so, will she state who she plans to consult; and
- a youth minimum wage rate and, if so, what age group will this rate apply to?"
Answer
The statutory consultation on the minimum wage rate for April 2027 is currently being undertaken by the Employment Forum, in line with the requirements of the Employment Law. Once it has considered all the evidence it has received, the Forum will make its recommendations to me. I expect to receive those recommendations in September.
In her direction letter to the Forum, the previous Minister for Social Security did not ask it specifically to consider sectoral minimum wage rates or a youth minimum wage.
I will consider all matters relating to the Minimum Wage once I have received the Forum's report.
