WQ.165/2026
WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR HOUSING BY DEPUTY M.B. ANDREWS OF ST. HELIER NORTH
QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 21st SEPTEMBER 2026 ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 28th SEPTEMBER 2026
Question
"Will the Minister advise whether consideration is currently given to avoiding placing a mixture of young and mature persons in the same apartment blocks in Andium Homes, and if no consideration is given, will he explain why not?"
Answer
All social housing providers, including Andium Homes and the housing trusts, allocate vacant homes to applicants on the Affordable Housing Gateway, which is administered by Employment, Social Security and Housing. Applicants are prioritised according to their housing need and matched to suitable homes.
Age is not generally taken into account when allocating homes, other than on a small number of developments where age-related occupancy restrictions apply as a result of planning requirements.
Social housing providers seek to support balanced and sustainable communities, including a mix of ages and household types. Any issues that arise are addressed through established tenancy and housing management arrangements.
I consider mixed-age communities to be a positive feature of many developments, bringing benefits such as stronger community cohesion, opportunities for mutual support and reduced social isolation.
