WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE CHIEF MINISTER
BY DEPUTY M.B. ANDREWS OF ST. HELIER NORTH
QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 5th OCTOBER 2026 ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 12th OCTOBER 2026
Question
"Will the Chief Minister advise what actions Government is taking, and intends to take, to support old-age pensioners during the cost-of-living crisis?"
Answer
The Government provides a wide range of support to Jersey's older residents that are targeted solely or principally to those over pension age.
In addition to provided assistance with living costs, the Jersey Old Age Pension rose by 4.7% from the beginning of October 2026, in line with a formula that ensures that pensioners always receive an increase that at least matches the pensioner RPI figure for the June quarter and provides a higher increase when wages have grown faster than prices.

While not limited to pensioner households, over three-quarters of CCB payments are made to pensioner households.
The proposed Common Strategic Policy also includes a commitment (1.6) to reviewing affordability, with Ministers seeking to: "identify how we can increase household resilience and improve Islanders' real living standards over the course of the term". This includes Jersey's old-age pensioners.
The Older Persons Li ving Forum is a direct route for pensioners to raise issues with Ministers and Government Departments. The Group meets every two months and discusses a wide range of issues. This remains an appropriate forum through which further action could be considered to support old-age pensioners with cost-of-living pressures.
