Provision of Government funded IVF since the new criteria

Question

"Further to the adoption of P.20/2024 (In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Funding), as amended, and the response to Written Question 5/2025, will the Minister provide an update on the provision of Government funded IVF since the new criteria and funding system were introduced earlier this year, including, but not limited to –

1. the number of Islanders who have been provided IVF treatment;
2. the number of rounds of IVF administered to each person, together with a breakdown of the clinics used;
3. the number of positive pregnancy tests resulting from IVF treatment;
4. the total expenditure on Government-funded IVF cycles to date this year; and
5. the number of Islanders seen by the ARU (Assisted Reproduction Unit) for IVF treatment who did not qualify for funded treatment, with a breakdown of the reasons for their non-qualification?"

Answer

1. since the new criteria and funding system were introduced earlier this year, 17 Islanders have been provided IVF treatment
2. all funded patients have had 1 fresh IVF / ICSI cycle each at BCRM only currently. In addition, there have been 7 Frozen Embryo Transfers (FETs)
3. 9 positive pregnancy tests have resulted from funded IVF treatment
4. the total expenditure on Government-funded IVF cycles to date this year is £62,000
5. 43 Islanders were seen by the Assisted Reproduction Unit (ARU) for IVF treatment but did not qualify for funded treatment

1. 28 because they or their partner already have a child
2. 9 because they have previously had self-funded IVF, or have embryos stored
3. 6 for other reasons that involve fewer than 5 patients e.g. age.
