20th December 2022 Dear Minister,
Major incident at Haut du Mont, Pier Road
The Children, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel has been deeply saddened by the tragic event at Pier Road on 10th December 2022 and would like to express condolences to all of those who have lost loved ones or have been affected by the disaster.
The Panel also recognises that there have been significant efforts by Government and the Emergency Services to respond and extends its best wishes to all of those involved in these continuing efforts.
The Panel would like to understand the format that the investigation into the major incident will take and would therefore be grateful if further details could be publicly shared. Furthermore, as additional resources have been called upon for the emergency response, the Panel would like to ensure that funding is available to support this.
I should therefore be grateful if you could respond to the following requests for information:
- Please could you provide the Panel with a written summary about the plans for the investigation into the major incident at Pier Road, including details about its governance and structure.
- Please could you confirm whether the cost of the response will be met by the emergency services existing budgets, or whether additional funding has been made available centrally from Government. Please provide details for each service impacted, where possible.
The Panel looks forward to your formal response and would request this is received by Friday 6th January 2023. Please direct any response or queries to the Panel through our Committee and Panel Officer, Katherine de Carteret by email at [email protected] or telephone on 01534 441041.
Yours sincerely,

Deputy Catherine Curtis
