REPORT

This amendment seeks to make the original amendment less prescriptive regarding the recommendations of the PFAS Scientific Advisory Panel by removing the requirement to  implement  the  recommendations  and  instead  requesting  full  and  transparent consideration of the recommendations.

The work of the Panel has been extensive and requires due consideration by the Government and the Assembly. The public interest in this matter requires that that consideration is transparent and thoughtful.

Taking the recommendations forward will require a careful assessment of how they might inform the development of the Island's approach to environmental contamination and this amendment ensures a considered rather than a prescriptive approach.

Financial and staffing implications

This amendment to the amendment does not make any changes to the financial and staffing implications of the original amendment.

Children's Rights Impact Assessment

I consider that this amendment has no direct or indirect impact on children and that the duty to have due regard to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child does not arise. Accordingly, a Children's Rights Impact Assessment is not required under the Children (Convention Rights) (Jersey) Law 2022.
